Stephen Mellor (Chairman)
Stephen joined the family business from university in 1989 as National Accounts Director and became Managing Director in 1994. Since then he has steered the company through the ever more complicated and competitive world of the Energy Industry. His drive and determination to bring ethics and high standards into the field of energy consultancy is unsurpassed. Away from the office his time is consumed by his family (son and daughter), exercising his creative streak through his recently completed debut novel entitled “From Where We Threw Dogs”, exercising his limbs through football and exercising his vocal chords supporting the mighty Owls, not the flying type but the football team – Sheffield Wednesday.
Steve Silverwood (Managing Director)
Steve joined ECA in 2003 as a Senior Manager for the Client Team. Having spent many years within corporate animals such as American Express, Thomas Cook and HSBC. He was invited to join the Board Of Directors in May 2008 as a reflection of his skills, expertise and dedication to the ‘customer experience’, all honed over the years in the financial, banking and travel industries. Away from the office Steve runs, cycles, is a Barnsley FC fan and has 2 teenage boys.
Patricia Mellor (Founder)
Pat is one of the founding members of the company, who along with her husband George set about establishing ECA as a force to be reckoned with within the energy industry. Since George’s untimely death in 1994 and the further growth of the business in the following years Pat took the step to Chairperson, a post which she held for 22 years and with it the opportunity to partake in semi-retirement, travelling the world and completing many renovations and restoration projects across the homes of family and friends. Pat will continue to work very closely with both Stephen and Steve in shaping the business for the future in her role as Board Director.
Leap & The Net Will Appear
We support the Melanoma Focus charity
We do so in memory of George Mellor and Lisa Griffiths.
Lisa joined ECA in 2005 as Company Secretary, being qualified in both law and accountancy, joining the Board as Finance Director in May 2008. She ran the Company’s finances with a fist of steel and provided a grounded and well balanced sounding board to her fellow directors. Away from the office, she was a devoted and loving mother to her son Matthew and a bit of sailing freak, often to be found hanging by her fingernails in the middle of some mad storm and loving every minute of it. In this time she also became Stephen’s partner but in April 2013 was diagnosed with advanced Metastatic Melanoma and we lost her in September that year.
Without George there would be no ECA: settling on a career in energy consultancy following a life encapsulating the air force and a world speed record, introducing microwave ovens to the UK, running driving schools and transport management in Liberia, together with Pat he struck out on the ECA road in 1986. A football referee once his playing days were behind him, which included a spell between the posts for Combined Services, he passed his love of Sheffield Wednesday on to his son, and subsequently his grandson. We lost George suddenly and tragically in September 1994: a devoted husband and father, Pat and Stephen continued the family business, his daughter Fiona is a teacher.
Our company charity is called ‘Leap…and the net will appear’ after a card given to Stephen by Lisa that carried this saying.
For Lisa and Stephen it was the belief in their relationship, the strength from being together. Thinking of George, and Pat, in the beginning, it is the belief in the dream of ECA, what the Company could become and achieve For Stephen, Pat, and Steve, and for many more in the business, it is the memory of two brilliant individuals who had vision, ambition and courage, strong in ethics and love.
